Most children show the first signs between 18 and 30 months. Before 18 months there is usually little point in trying, because a child cannot consciously hold their bladder yet. Age on its own says little: what matters is age combined with the signs you see.
Two signs weigh the heaviest: staying dry for one to two hours (or waking up dry) and telling you there is something in the nappy. Curiosity about the potty, copying others and pulling their own pants down count as well. The test goes through seven signs in total and weighs them together with the age.
It differs per child. If you start at a moment when the signs are there, it usually takes a few weeks. Our Potty Training Box works with a one-week training: a fixed seven-day plan, with materials and rewards to keep it going. Does something go wrong along the way? You do not have to start over: most children pick it back up quickly.
Waiting is the best advice. Leave a potty out, read books about it together and describe what you are doing at nappy changes. Come back a few weeks later and look at the signs again.
Nothing. The test takes about two minutes, you get your result with tailored advice straight away, and you do not have to leave an email address to see it.
